Want to take your dog on a UTV ride? Follow these safety tips.

Use a Crate

It's important that your dog is safely secured while the UTV is in motion. Otherwise, he could interfere with your ability to drive...or even fall off and get injured!

That's where a crate enters the picture.

Just be sure to use tie downs to secure the crate to the side-by-side. A crate can fall off of a UTV, even when the powersports vehicle is traveling at a slow speed.

Get Your Dog Familiar With the UTV

Your dog's first UTV trip shouldn't be hours and hours long. It's important to build up your dog's comfort level with the side-by-side first. You can use treats or toys when you introduce her to the UTV. This can help her associate the side-by-side with positive experiences.

Then, take a few short trips. See how he responds and make sure he isn't getting distressed. Over time, you can increase the length of the ride until his endurance is fully built up.

Pack Supplies for Your Dog

Bring a water dish as well as fresh water. Your dog needs to stay hydrated, especially on hot days. If it'll be a longer trip, pack food as well. If you'll be exploring an area with lots of vegetation, consider bringing a brush as well. It'll help you more easily remove stickers and other debris from her fur.
